Negative attitudes and perceptions toward people who use alcohol and drugs can create structural and clinical barriers that impact engagement in care. The fear of judgment associated with talking about and seeking help for a substance use disorder can discourage someone from engaging in available treatment and recovery services. This two-hour training workshop will address strategies for open, judgment-free conversations that promote mutual understanding and respect, thereby increasing treatment engagement and success. Participants will engage in discussion about how to decrease negative bias and increase engagement in their programs and communities.
