The purpose of this presentation is to help learners understand the history of research, Western science, and its impact on Indigenous communities. The goal is to provide some context of how Western science has impacted the health of Tribal people and to provide some examples of how current Indigenous ways of knowing can be implemented into our work. Examples of Indigenous research will be provided for context.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

2. Integrate at least two (2) principles related to Western and Indigenous Ways of Knowing into a strategy of a relational-based perspective of conducting research.
3. Specify at least two (2) ways to adapt and implement skills and techniques of Indigenous Ways of Knowing into research practice.
